The article describes the winter fishing of bream on bottom gear.
Lovers and professionals in fishing in the winter, probably the most. But this fish is cunning and cautious, especially in the middle of winter at the time of the famous “deaf-land”. The bobbers and juggers, who had recently been fishing for bream merrily and a lot, sitting in comfort in tents, now often get bored. In the stagnant water of reservoirs and large lakes, where this fishing took place, now there is little oxygen. And the fish goes to places with a course closer to the fairway of large rivers and reservoirs, where float tackle and light mormyshki are not able to fully catch bream (in detail, about fishing for bream on mormyshka in winter, read here). Also with feeders. The bait poured out of the bottom from the feeders will be immediately washed away by the current.
On the river or at the fairway of the reservoir, bottom tackle is quite suitable, similar to tackle for summer fishing, but in a more miniature design. But lovers of mormyshka can also use the usual equipment, only mormyshki will be required much harder and, most likely, in the version of a “garland” or tandem, where a heavy blende will serve as a load, and the light bait tied above from a set of people working in still water will already catch as a full mormyshki. But at the same time, the lower mormyshka-cargo is not necessarily just a cargo. Under certain conditions and the special bait chosen, bites can occur on a large bait. To do this, worms prepared in the fall are used, which are planted with a large “lobe” on the hook of the lower mormyshka. Pecking at such an attractive “lobe” can be done not only by bream, sop, hacker and closer to spring - ide, but predatory fish are also quite capable of attacking a mormyshka with worms. This is zander and less often pike. And if fishing occurs at dusk and at night, then there is the likelihood of bites of a gloomy night predator - burbot. Several larvae of bloodworms cling to the upper mormyshka or one bloodworm is planted in a half-ring.
But back to the bream. To catch it in mormyshka, you need to slightly change the principle of the game with bait. That is, the usual smooth movements with ups and downs to the bottom, when it most often takes bream, are not quite suitable here due to the influence of a strong current. The “pull” method is more suitable when the mormyshka is thrown downstream in small ascents, and then pulled back with a wide movement of the hand. For such a method, it is necessary to put a bait by weight that can touch the bottom, lie on it and fold down when viewed with a fishing rod. That is, the mormyshka should be slightly lighter than it would seem necessary for building gear, when the bait lies motionless at the bottom, without reacting to any amplification of the stream jets. Instead of lead metal, tin or tungsten metal jigsaw, tied up above, you can use bright red, green or white polystyrene lures or glowing jigsaw pads, especially if fishing occurs at great depths. These mormyshki can be placed not on the main fishing line, but on a long leash, which further brings the tackle closer to the bottom. Bait in such fishing is carried out in a simple, old-fashioned way, when upstream in the hole they hung a bag of radish with porridge, grain and breadcrumbs at the bottom. Now the feeders are more modern. Best of all, metal cylinder feeders with drilled holes and a lead bottom, lowered to the bottom on a durable nylon cord, have proven themselves best. As a bait, you can use a ready-made winter bait for catching bream with the addition of oatmeal “Hercules” for viscosity and, of course, bloodworm, which will be slowly washed with the bait. And you can cook it yourself, according to our recipe, read here.
Donkeys that resemble summer feeder equipment, or rather, are made of feeder elements, which are feeders that are most suitable for fishing in strong currents, are no less productive. Rods are best used with tops made of vinyl plastic, that is, homemade and more durable. Nods must also be strong and rigid, made of a flat spring or thick plastic. Symmetric, asymmetric feeder loops can be used to equip the leads, but conventional anti-twist made of plastic tubes work just as well in strong currents as the Gardner paternoster and other loops.
For a strong current, heavy feeders of at least 100 grams are needed. Wells are fed with winter bait for bream with oatmeal, millet porridge and peas, boiled to a state of thick mashed potatoes. It is necessary to add small bloodworms to the bait.
The usual summer feeder hooks are placed on the leashes, but the terminal may be a mormyshka with a worm or bloodworm. This mormyshka is capable of becoming an object of attack by a predator - pikeperch or bersh, we talked about the features of winter fishing for pikeperch and bersh here.

Boers with a hole diameter of 100 or even 140 mm are not suitable for fishing bream. A bream drill should be able to drill holes of at least 180 mm in diameter. And then there will be no cases when only the head of a large bream gets out of the hole with a hook ...
