When is the best pike perch and bersh? For each season, fishing for zander and bersh has its own specific lures. Color and wiring of lures.
Pikeperch and bersh have always been a welcome prey for an amateur fisherman and athlete. And not only as trophies of sport fishing, but also in terms of gastronomic. These fish are very tasty, especially in the cold, in aspic. They are on the menu of the best restaurants.
There are certain baits for zander and bersh for each season.
First of all, the most common and popular are jig baits. It is on them that most of the zander is caught. Then there are foam rubber fish 5-8 cm long, sometimes smaller ones are also used, but in the fall for large pike perch they use snag more than 8 cm. Foam baits with doubles are preferable than with a single hook, as they are better for detecting fish. The stiffness of a stray mouth, which sometimes requires more than one stripping, has long been known. Foam baits with a tail look outwardly more like a live fish, meanwhile, they play better "foam" without a tail.
When dwelling on foam rubber fish, it must be said that it is better to put the bait weight not round, but slightly flattened on the sides, for example, the weight is “lentil”. This improves the game of the bait, and falling to the bottom, such a weight, sometimes, first rises to the edge, and then lays on the ground. At the same time, a foam rubber fish makes spinning movements that attract a predator. Therefore, with such a “foam rubber” snap-in, there are many gripes of zander on the bottom. And in general, foam rubber fish in certain conditions are often more catchy than jig and silicone baits. This is caused by a peculiar game of "foam": baits are near the bottom almost vertically or at an angle to the surface of the soil.
Meanwhile, silicone baits have their advantages
They are diverse in color, have an active game, where Mansovsky twisters can serve as an example, and in a good nibble of pike perch and bersh it is better to catch on silicone. Mansovskie twisters of green with sparkles are especially good. Pearl white proved to be quite good. These baits are quite large: if you deploy such a twister in full length, it will be at least 12 cm. But even the small gimmicks and bershs grab these twisters quite willingly. And it was noticed that zander is not afraid of large baits, despite its narrow throat.
Bear baits are usually small
These can be twisters and vibro-tails with actively working tails. Moreover, it is better if the color of the lures is contrasting, for example: the red back of the lure on a white body, or the yellow-green body of the lure with a red tail. In a series of such silicone baits is a fish with a "pocket". Usually the casting range with it is small due to air resistance, but, nevertheless, this is a catchy bait. It is better to have all of the above baits in 2 forms: with open tees and the so-called “unhooked” ones. The best option for such a bait may be a weight with a suspended offset hook hidden in a twister.
Large vibro-tails also work well in catching zander and bersh, especially in autumn. At depth and at dusk, luminous vibro-tails are indispensable.
Continuing the topic of jig baits, you should probably dwell on spinner bait
Sometimes these baits become the most popular among the predator. In addition, they seem to be two in one, that is, they have a petal, and a weight with bait. Everything is easy to replace here: both a weight and a hook with a twister. To do this, it is enough to unfasten the clasp and make a replacement. The petal does not need to be set large, number 1 is quite suitable. Apparently, thanks to the two active elements of the bait, zander is equally active. Instead of a twister, a spinnerbait can also be equipped with a foam fish. This also diversifies the game of bait. And in a passive bite, such a replacement often causes the interest of a predator.
Also for fishing pike perch successfully used jig "turntables"
They fly far, pull the fishing line well and provoke the grip of large zander. And, most likely, there will be less bites than with soft foam and silicone baits on a jig head, but the fish will be larger. As well as on spinnerbait, petal number 1-2 will be sufficient. Smaller turntables are suitable for catching a bersh: with a flat weigher - lentils, a double zero petal and a single hook pointing up.
Often, the most catchy points in zander fishing are the so-called "strong" places. These are not shallow-water “toads” overgrown with grass, where a pike stands, but deep brow with snags and stones.
In places of coarse, it is necessary to use jig turntables - “unhooked”. As one of the equipment options, you can put a foam fish with an offset hook.
In addition to the list of pike perches made of silicone, you can add Long John and artificial worms. The Long John bait is mounted on an offset hook and looks like a narrow fish, and of the lures it is a slug. Its plus is that if it is broken by a hook in the place of the nozzle, then the bait can simply be cut off and put the rest on an offset hook. The predator will grab the bait even if only the tail remains. Long John can be made from a conventional vibratory tail. To do this, you just need to cut off his abdomen, leaving a narrow part for the nozzle on the hook.
And artificial worms belong to similar baits. Like Long John, they can be used in a non-engaging version. To do this, it is enough to plant the bait, as on an offset hook, sinking the sting of the hook in the body of the bait.
The color of the bait is important when fishing at shallow depths. But even at depth, ultraviolet lures work better. They are better seen. These are baits of bright lemon color, green with sparkles, pearly white, and, oddly enough, carrot color. It is clear that in even deeper places luminous trompe l'oeil are clearly visible to the fish.
“Foam rubber” of mouse color proved to be quite good, especially against the background of a bright bottom. And, despite the seemingly nondescript color, baits of this color can be called universal for any day and weather.
Polyurethane foam lures may come in handy in late fall.
They do not differ in a good game during posting, but at the bottom they behave like "foam" - they stand vertically or at an angle to the bottom, making oscillating movements. But the advantage of these baits is that they do not get wet. A "foam" can get wet and lose their qualities. But it is important that the double is closer to the tail of the polyurethane fish, as it stands upright, and the grip falls more often behind the tail. And when fishing from the bottom, a pause is very important. The wiring should not be completely stepwise, but with a shortened step, if I may say so. This is one turn of the coil at a fast pace and a pause at the bottom for 3-4 seconds. And it is imperative that such fishing requires a sensitive rod with a jig nod. This is the only way to accurately determine the bite.
Goat hair wabiki work well
The bait flies perfectly and retains air bubbles when it is in the water. Their main advantage is the long casting distance, in addition, they sail less than all other lures and allow you to catch great depths.
Posting lures for catching zander and bersh
For catching zander and bersh, step-wiring is most often used, in some way shortened: two turns of the coil, pause. The fall time of the bait when fishing for zander should be no more than 1-2 seconds. Sudak does not like to take the nozzle above half a meter from the bottom. Therefore, the pause and the “step” are shortened. But sometimes a pause is very important. It is necessary to give the bait to lie quietly at the bottom for about 4 seconds and only then start the wiring. Especially at the beginning of fishing. But in normal mode, the bait is at the bottom for about 2 seconds. Another technique is used for dragging the blende along the bottom, sometimes in combination with step wiring. It reminds a running donka. Here are the basic criteria for posting when fishing for zander. The remaining subtleties are experienced.
Places for catching pike perch are chosen where the bottom is solid, there are drops, and the edges from the shallows to the pit, whirlpools with the reverse flow, entrances and exits from the pits. It is not the pits themselves that should be caught, but their edges, the slopes in depth.
On reservoirs, among even depths, often braids and shallows become catchy places where they border pits. Most often, the catch level depends on the thermocline. This is the separation between a cold layer of water and a warm one. A layer at the bottom, below the thermocline, is usually less saturated with oxygen. Naturally, the fish tends to stay in places with an even and warmer temperature, where there is also more oxygen. Bumps at the bottom and shallows may be higher than the thermocline, where the fish will stand.
Seasonality of predator activity
Like most fish of our reservoirs, pikeperch is both inactive, and a passionate and furious hunter. And here, too, the seasonality of activity of predators, including toothfish, can be traced. Sometimes, during periods of tiring summer heat in reservoirs rich in pike perch and bersh, it seems that these predators do not exist at all in these places, at least in the daytime and on the best eyebrows, bordering deep pits, where there are a lot of stony placers and snags. And these are the most attractive places for zander and bersh. And only at night can the presence of predators be detected, and not at all in those classic places of their habitat, but, it would seem, on completely unpromising sand spits and in pits behind rifts. In the summer heat season, only night fishing helps out.
