As already mentioned, ide can not be called a fish of traditional winter fishing. At least on the middle and upper Volga. In the rich fish and warmer delta of this river, ide catching in winter is more likely than rare. But in other places, during long thaws, the ide comes to life and begins to actively feed. At this time, heat-loving fish such as crucian carp, carp, carp, also begin to peck in some reservoirs.
Catching ide in such favorable thaw conditions is quite diverse. And quite often weighty specimens come across. Therefore, for catching an ide, a hook is necessary, especially if the hole is small in diameter.
Ide for a fool
This method and similar similar methods of ide from ice are very effective in a strong river . Other types of gear cannot compete with these simple but successful gears precisely because of the current.
"Durilka", "ball" and other similar types of gear are a winter fishing rod with a strong whip and a fairly stiff metal nod, equipped with winter fishing line with a diameter of 0.2 mm .
The equipment is the simplest and is, in fact, a leash. An end heavy “olive” or “cone” cargo is attached to the main fishing line, as well as to a retractable leash in a spinning rod. Above the load, it is tied to a swivel, preferably a triple one, a leash 1-2 meters long from a fishing line with a diameter of 0.15-0.18 mm, on which there is a hook number 4-5 of our numbering. Under especially extreme conditions, all the equipment is made more powerful. Instead of a hook, you can put a phosphoric or plastic mormyshka. Also, instead of a sinker, a heavy jig-head or mormyshka of the uralk type is sometimes tied.
As a bait, use a brush of bloodworms, better tied together with a special tool than strung on a hook by piercing each larva when the bloodworm quickly leaks out and loses its attractive appearance. Maggot is less commonly used. Worms are very successful in catching ide in winter, especially closer to spring .
The technique of catching on a “dope” consists of several operations. Initially, the end sinker or mormyshka sinks to the bottom, followed by a pause when the hook and bait are in the “stand” mode. Then the sinker rises slightly and is carried downstream for a certain distance. Then everything repeats. If the bite did not follow, then the load and with the equipment returns to the hole with a long pulling rod on itself. These pulls must be done periodically during the entire fishing trip. Sometimes it is at this moment that a bite follows or the fish grabs the bait during a pause.
On float tackle
In long thaws, float equipment is often used, working as in the summer, where the sinker is located above the hook in the form of one or two lead pellets. And the float is simply located on the surface of the water in the hole. But sometimes the thaw is replaced by frost and then a pop-up float is required. To do this, the fishing line at the hook is equipped with one sinker, which together with the hook will lie on the bottom, and the other sinkers are placed in suspension closer to the float. The tackle must be set so that the weight of the set of sinkers is sufficient to hold the float in a drowned state 6-7 cm below the water level in the hole. During the bite, when the fish lifts a bait hook and sinker from the bottom, the float should float under the surface of the water, but not swim from above, where, moreover, the ice grabbing the hole will probably not let it go.
If fishing on a float tackle occurs in a mild or moderate course, then a slightly different principle of “float” will be required - a diversion lead. Here, the snap-in device is similar to the “fool” described above, where a leash with a hook is attached above the sinker. Only the leash is applied shorter. With good bite they put a leash 20 cm long, and with a weak bite - 0.8-1.0 m . The float is set here so that the heavy load does not sink it, but only immerses it to the bright top.
The equipment is used thinner than in the "dope". The main fishing line is 0.15 mm, the leash is 0.12 mm thick, and the hook is No. 4 of domestic numbering. The bite is indicated not by the float surfacing, as in the first case, but by jerky drifts towards the edge of the hole.
For bait use bloodworms, maggot, worms . They feed the hole with winter baits, lowering the conical tipper-dump truck to the bottom and creating a food stain there, which ide ideally suits.
