The article talks about how to properly prepare for pike fishing in December. What gear and lures are used when fishing pike from under the ice. How to catch pike in winter in open water, the methods of posting, depending on the chosen method of fishing.
Provided that the gear and lures are selected correctly, you can successfully catch pike in the winter, of course, if the weather conditions are favorable for this. We will talk about how to choose baits and gear for fishing depending on the conditions in this article.
Ice fishing pike
Pike is best caught on the first ice, which is well known even to a novice angler. For fishing, you can use a variety of gear and lures. On fresh ice, the pike is most conveniently caught in a plumb line using various spinners. Also, excellent results can be obtained by using zergilniki; bait is used as bait (roach, gudgeon, scavenger or other fry). Note that live bait is best obtained in a pond where predator fishing is carried out.
In the first case, it is recommended to select sections of the reservoir with a depth of up to three meters for fishing. When fishing for zergirls, which can be used in an amount of 10 to 25 pieces by one angler, the installation is carried out at various depths, you should start with the shallows.
If the ice has already settled, then I will not get good results using balancers and winter spinners, the pike is no longer so active. In the middle of winter and during the dead-end season, only a live bait will be able to catch a pike, therefore, girders remain as the main gear.
By the way, we have a separate article devoted to catching a predator on a lap-dog, from it you will learn about varieties of lap-frogs, and fishing tips, read here.

Outdoor pike fishing in winter
If the winter turned out to be warm, then the reservoir may not be covered with ice, especially in its central part. In this case, the fisherman can decide on his own what kind of gear to use for pike fishing. If you have a boat at your disposal, you can try to catch a predator in a plumb line using balancers or spinning, as any baits, as well as wobblers, will be suitable as bait. If there is no ice crust in the coastline, then you can successfully catch a predator from the shore with a fishing rod as bait using live bait.
When fishing with spinning reels, excellent results can be obtained using a jig. However, it should be noted that silicone baits that were used in late autumn should be postponed until spring. In December, the pike will react with great interest to the foam rubber fish swimming by it. When catching a passive pike, the predator will be able to provoke an attack with a dead fish on a snap.
How to post when fishing in open water
How to correctly post when fishing with a spinning rod, a lot has been written, we note only a small trick. So, if you are using a jig with foam rubber fish, the pause should be from 10 to 15 seconds, while a slight twitching of the tip of the rod is allowed. If you are using equipment with a dead fish, then after a jerk or winding, the bait should sink completely to the bottom and remain motionless for up to 10 seconds. A pike attacks a dead fish most often when it is at rest, so there is no need to rush to post, the slower the more likely to provoke a fanged fish.
When catching pikes in a plumb line, regardless of whether from a boat or from ice, it is best to use a dead fish (gudgeon, roach, carp) to bait, if the pike is hungry, then it can even react to cut fish. If there is a current in the pond catching pond, then after the bait sinks to the bottom, it is worth pausing, thereby allowing the bait to be pulled along the bottom 1-2 meters, unless of course it is clean and the risk of hooking is excluded.
