January perch fishing

The article describes how to prepare for catching perch in January. Where to look for a predator, what determines the choice of a place for catching it. What gears are used to catch perch in January, what bait is used.

Perch refers to predatory fish, found in almost all water bodies, caught throughout the year. However, despite the prevalence and activity, catching it is far from easy. It is important to know not only the habits of the fish, but also to be able to correctly determine the place for fishing, pick up tackles and lures, especially if you have to catch in January.

Catching perch in January, where to look for a predator?

So, having come to the pond, you should immediately look around and try to identify some of the most promising points. If you had to fish earlier in a pond, then there will be less problems with choosing a place for fishing. It is more difficult to find a promising place for catching perch in January on an unfamiliar reservoir.

What can be advised in the latter case. Start fishing from the coastal zone, but only if the depth on the site will exceed 2-2.5 meters. It is important to know that in January the oxygen concentration significantly decreases and this is the reason that the fish becomes sluggish.

If the winters turned out to be warm, then you can try to catch a predator in the same areas where fishing on the first ice took place (which we naturally wrote about in our article “Over the First Ice”). When choosing a place, it should be borne in mind that the predator prefers territories with a hard sandy or clay bottom, necessarily with the presence of snags and other shelters. Among the thickets of underwater vegetation (grass) to look for perch is not very promising, another thing is a plot a few meters from the reeds, among the stems of which the predator likes to ambush small fish.

In January, the perch will stick to deep holes, as well as areas with sharp drops in depth. The predator does not depart far from the parking places, as is observed on the first ice, therefore it is necessary to constantly search for it. The most promising days for catching perch in January are thaw periods. In the cold, as well as in snowfall, the predator goes to a depth and becomes completely passive, it is very difficult to provoke it to attack.

What gear to catch perch in the middle of winter "> So, a nod fishing rod is the main structural element of a nod, the length of which is selected individually taking into account the weight of the mormyshka, balancer, baubles and fishing conditions. The tackle is equipped with a reel, which stores the supply of fishing line (5-10 meters) with a cross section of not more than 0.15 mm.

As for the nods, today they are offered in a large assortment, you can buy them at any fishing store. Nods are made of plastic or metal spring, absolutely all models of nods are adjustable in length.

A fishing rod can be used in January only after the parking of an active predator is found. The bite signaling device is a float, the carrying capacity of which should not exceed one gram. It is recommended to tackle the tackle so that the float, after lowering the bait, is immersed 1-2 cm under water. The mormyshka is attached to the main fishing line, as in the first case, however, if desired, the equipment can be understaffed with a regular hook, which is fixed on the leash above the mormyshka by 20 cm.

You can catch a predator using bloodworms, maggots, dung worms, or a combination of these baits.

Features of fishing perch with artificial bait

• Catching mormyshka. Using this bait gives the best results, however, success will largely depend on the ability to choose the right bait for weight, size, shape and color. Immediately, we note that a hard nod 10-15 cm long should be installed on the gear. Under the weight of the bait, the nod should not deviate more than 25 degrees, otherwise it will be difficult to notice the predator's bite in a timely manner.

For catching perch in this period, one should select voluminous mormyshki with a length of 4-5 mm; mormyshki - “little devil” work best on a perch. You can increase the attractiveness of the bait if you attach a small amount of red wool thread to the hook, which will emit larvae of bloodworms.

Particular attention should be paid to the game bait. Sharp movements should not be present in the actions, the mormyshka should move slowly, it should be torn off from the bottom to a height of 30 cm, pauses (5-10 seconds) must be made. The predator bites predominantly at the moment of a pause at the top point, or as soon as the bait hits the bottom, forming a cloud of turbidity (try fishing for the bald, read here).

• Lure fishing. This option of baits is used in January mainly when catching an active predator, when its parking place is determined. You should start fishing for perch from the shore, that is, from shallow water. If there are no bites of a predator, then it should be shifted to the side by at least 20-25 meters. One hole should not be given more than 10 minutes, we note that if a predator is present in the fishing area, then it will not take long to bite it.

For catching perch, it is recommended to select spinners up to 4 cm long, with respect to color it is better to choose white, red or combined variants. In cloudy weather, perch is more likely to attack light baits, and in sunny weather - lures of bright colors. This point is important to remember and consider when choosing a bait relative to the color cast.

In the process of fishing, the bait should not be pulled sharply, all movements should be smooth, only in this case it will be possible to attract and provoke a predator to attack. It is necessary to tear the bait from the bottom to a height of up to 20 cm, and when lifting, it is necessary to withstand pauses (2-4 seconds). At the upper point, the pause can be increased to 10 seconds. It is often possible to attract perch with light twitches of the bait directly on the bottom surface or a few centimeters from it.
