The article describes how to properly prepare for spring fishing for zander. What tackle and bait are used. What you need to pay attention to when choosing a place for catching zander in the spring. How is fishing for zander in the spring.
Many believe that zander is successfully caught exclusively in the fall. It is wrong to think so, since this predator is well caught all year round, in particular, in spring and even in summer. However, rely on a good catch, for example, in the spring can only fishermen who responsibly approached the question of choosing equipment, location and lures. What is important to know when setting out to catch zander in the spring. Consider all the nuances.
The beginning of zander activity in spring
The most difficult to catch zander in the period after the ice melts and before the flood. During this period, the predator can feed both at depth and on the shallows. It is possible to catch him only by using active search.
Approximately after the peak of flood, pre-spawning zhor begins in zander, it falls at the beginning of April, and lasts about two weeks. Before spawning, zander is perfectly caught, and its bites can occur not only in the evening and morning, but also during the day, provided the weather is cloudy. After spawning, the pike perch wakes up again, it actively feeds for about a week.
Back to the flood, it is important to note that if the water level rises or falls sharply, then the outbreaks of pike perch may stop. Well zander is caught in floods if the water level does not change at least a couple of days. After the peak of activity, when the water level begins to gradually decrease, the water brightens the activity of the predator, increases.
Note that the spring migration of zander to spawning places begins approximately from mid-March and lasts until the first half of April. This period is considered the most promising for spring fishing of zander.
How to choose the right tackle for catching zander in the spring
Particular attention should be paid to the rod. So, the length of the spinning is determined in each case individually. So, for fishing from the shore it is recommended to buy tackles 2.7-3.1 meters long, for fishing from a swimming tool a rod up to 2.4 meters long is suitable. Regardless of the length of the rod, the blank should be distinguished by sensitivity and power, if you have to catch in a pond with the passage. A good choice for fishing zander is one of the spinning rods offered below:
• Nautilus Magnet - length 8.4 meters, test 21 grams. The rod is perfect for fishing using medium weight jig heads, as well as wobblers weighing 10 grams or more.
• Maximus Dreamer - length 2.7 meters, test up to 35 grams. Tackle is perfect for fishing from the shore.
• Extreme Fishing Panache length 2.1 meters, test 18 grams. A fishing rod is a great option for fishing from a boat.
Now for the coil. On the selected spinning you can install: multiplier or inertialess reel. Professionals opt for:
• Okuma CeymarC-35 FD, characterized by reliability and quality of laying fishing line. In addition to 35, 30 and 40 sizes are proposed, Okuma classification.
• Okuma RTX-35 is characterized by good traction characteristics, the proposed reel is an excellent option for catching zander and perch.
For fishing, it is recommended to use a braided cord, its advantages in zero tension, which increases the sensitivity of the gear in general. Note that a braided cord with a small cross section is able to withstand heavy loads, for example, a cord with a diameter of only 0.1 mm has a breaking load of slightly more than 10 kg. For fishing in the spring of such a cord is enough.
If there is a chance of hooks in the fishing area, then the diameter of the braid can be increased to 0.14 mm.
Choosing bait for spring fishing for zander
In spring, when fishing for zander, you can use various options for lures, the choice of which depends on the fishing conditions and activity of the predator. Most often, anglers use: wobblers, jig baits, oscillating and spinning baits. Each of the proposed options is different in its features. Consider each view in detail.
Wobblers. The advantage of this type of bait is that it allows you to post at a slow speed, which is especially beneficial with low zander activity. When fishing, sinking models of wobblers are mainly used, since most often zander hunts at the bottom. The best choice for catching pikeperch at any time is cranki.
Jig bait. The group of these lures, which includes twisters, vibro-tails and foam fish, are used most often. Any of the lures in this group is able to attract the attention of a pike perch and provoke it to attack. The indisputable advantage of jig lures is low cost. When fishing in areas with snags or other underwater obstacles, the bait is equipped with an offset hook, which completely eliminates the chance of a hook.
Spinners. The choice of spinners depends on the depth of the fishing area. So, spinners are recommended if the depth does not exceed three meters, rotating - up to 5 meters. The size of the bait, regardless of its type, should be within 5-8 cm in length; it is preferable to choose a narrow form.

Ways and tactics of catching zander in the spring
Catching a pike perch can be problematic, even if the promising points on the pond are well known. Finding zander is difficult - this is due to its constant movement, especially with a sharp change in water level. You do not need to rely on promising summer or autumn points, most often in the spring, zander is not found on them. Note that predator bites can occur in places that, by all rules, can safely be attributed to unpromising ones.
Success is guaranteed only if you actively search for fish, so you should not stay in one place for longer than 15 minutes. Catching the selected point is a series of 10 casts. Note that the chances of success also increase if the bait is often changed.
In spring, it is best to use jig baits, especially if fishing is carried out on a site with a depth of more than five meters. With a depth of up to 3 meters, you can try to catch zander using sinking wobblers.
