Aerobatics in the world of winter fishing is catching bream from ice. It is not so easy to take bream in open water, to say nothing of winter fishing, when the fish experiences oxygen starvation by the middle and the end of winter and its nibble is sluggish.
Of course, it is possible to train scavengers and carpenters from the ice in winter, but if we are talking about catching a large bream in a single instance, it requires some skill and knowledge, which I will tell you in a simple and accessible form. I immediately draw attention to the fact that this article is just some introduction to the big topic of fishing on bream in the winter, as only practice and continuous improvement can make an amateur fisherman, a real covetous.
In winter, bream are caught both on the course and in stagnant water, while many tackles are used, for example: jigging equipment, mormyshka with a float, standard float tackle, combined tackle, and some special tackles for catching on the course. In an accessible form, we will consider how to catch bream on a winter float on a site without a current.
First of all, you need to clearly understand that the bream rarely leaves the favorite pits, therefore, you need to look for it at the points where the bites of this fish were previously noted. Most often, these are pits, sharp dumps, it happens that he goes to relatively flat sections at considerable depths, but prefers, nevertheless, areas where the bottom is not quite even, where there are minor differences in depths, and the total depth is 5-10 meters and more. So the place was found, what's next. It should be noted that bream is a very finicky fish, and also with increased care for everything and everything. Therefore, the found place must be properly prepared. The preparation in most cases consists in feeding the holes, and this should be done regularly so that the fish develops a kind of addiction to this process, well, and the second - it is necessary to ensure silence. The second condition is achieved by setting up a tent, someone is building various structures from snow, etc. The point is to exclude extraneous sounds that the bream picks from the depths as much as possible. Accordingly, the fishing itself is conducted in absolute silence.
Now a few words about gear. This is a fishing rod (fishing rods with a length of not more than 30-40 cm are convenient for me), a reel with a supply of fishing line of at least 20 meters, I put the fishing line no thicker than 0.15 mm., Although cliffs happen, but if you put a thicker forest, I can not like hooks and (or) mormyshki, weights, float. The size of the hook is determined empirically, keep in mind that in winter the fish is more careful, sluggish, shy, so hooks of too large sizes will be inappropriate here. Sometimes instead of a hook, I suspend a mormyshka (sometimes, I put both a hook and a mormyshka, at a distance of about 10-20 cm from each other). I set the load according to the rule: the smallest ones are closer to the hooks, and 3-5 cm apart, so that with a light lifting of the hook and the first load by the bream, the float immediately responds, and the fish does not feel resistance. I fix the first pellet no higher than 7-10 cm from the hook. In practice, just 2-3 pellets are enough, but you can do just one weight. Fishing rods themselves are best installed on coasters that can be made either from snow, or from any other material (plastic, metal, etc.). If you hold the tackle in your hands, the bream can feel vibrations, and this can alert it. But, in the absence of biting, sometimes you can play with tackle (as when catching perch, for example). Now about how to load the float: sometimes I bring it to the surface of the water, sometimes I immediately sink it. It all depends on the ambient temperature. If the hole freezes (and this happens if the place is not completely isolated from the environment), then the float is better to melt, otherwise - it all depends on your preferences, as you prefer. But there is a rule: the less weight the tackle has, the more sensitive and less alert the bream will be. So look for a middle ground. During fishing, even if there is no bite, do not forget to regularly feed the bream. As a bait, an ordinary store bait for bream is suitable, but it is advisable to add a forage bloodworm to it. Calculate the density of the ball so that it can “deliver” the bloodworm to the bottom, and does not fly apart when it is lowered into the water column. In principle, this option also has a place to be, but I prefer denser balls. By the way, the fisherman can raise the temperature in an improvised hazel dwelling with the help of ordinary candles, observing all safety measures. And since the bream is caught both night and day, you should think about the choice of clothes and the source of heat in advance, this is a separate issue.
Biting a bream in winter is different. Sometimes it drowns the float, sometimes it leads to the side, sometimes, like in the summer, it lifts it and puts it. And it also happens that he will slightly raise and freeze in this position, it is not always possible to track this moment. A nod helps, which in tandem with a float signals a bite.
It is necessary to prey the bream carefully, without fuss, not to make noise. Another rule: let the bream break better, but you will calmly continue fishing rather than making a fuss and “finish” the fishing process.
It is clear that in the article I only in general terms touched upon the technique of float fishing for bream in winter. But, if you have a desire to try your hand in this matter, the main thing is to start. Experience will come over time and everything will work out.
Good luck and all the best.
