Perch - how to catch

Perch is a predator. To catch a perch, especially a large one, you need to try, but these efforts can be rewarded. Here we will talk in detail about catching perch.

Perch, now it’s time to talk about one of the most famous fish, which geographically inhabits almost all water bodies of the country, lives in lakes and rivers, which is a welcome trophy among professional and experienced fishermen, and which “opens” the door to the world of fishing for beginners youth fishermen. Like some other types of fish, perch has been familiar to us since childhood. It is the perch that is often portrayed in children's books, but after growing up, the boys go to the nearest river or pond, and most likely, the perch is the first trophy, the first fish that we managed to catch on our own.

In this section, we will not talk about dishes that can be prepared from perch, since there are so many of them that it is simply unrealistic to list and remember everything (we will tell here). But it so happened that the ear is good from the perch, and in fried form it is a real masterpiece. We will try to give some description of this fish, briefly talk about the favorite parking places for this fish, well, actually give brief information on catching perch. Naturally, one article does not disclose all the nuances, especially if it concerns perch, since there are so many ways for fishing with this fish today that each of them deserves its own separate description and review, which you will find below.

Perch description

Outwardly, perch cannot be confused with any other fish. The perch has small scales, the gills have some sharpening at the posterior end, which is important to consider when fighting, so as not to get injured. The main distinguishing feature of a perch is its color and its sharp fin with spines, which can also cause injury to an inexperienced fisherman. Elongated stripes are visible along the body of the perch, giving the perch a “zebra-like” appearance, the remaining fins have a reddish-orange color. If you look at the perch from above, the main color will be greenish-gray, with a blackish tint, well, and a look from below will reveal a whitish-yellow hue. Take a look at the photo, is it possible to confuse a perch with some other fish "> Perch is a predator. You need to try to catch a large perch, but these efforts can be rewarded. For example, to catch a large humpback perch for 500-700 or more grams is really good luck and a lot of emotions. Basically, in the catches of fishermen there are sailors of about 100-200 grams, which is also very good. For example, when you catch on the first or last ice in winter, the mood improves so much that you forget about everything. Moreover, finding flock only the spaway put the tackle back into the hole, as the perch is a school of flocks and constantly moves in search of food. The perch fishing is dynamic and constantly moving.

Where to look for perch

A few words about where you can meet perch. We have already noted that perch is excellent for catching in the open water season, and from ice, in winter.

In summer, he prefers a wide variety of places. For example, the perch stands by the grass and in the thickets of vegetation, where it waits for the fry, and where the conditions are created for its disguise, since the perch itself is the subject of hunting for the same pike or burbot. The perch stands in the pits (both in the pit itself and at the exit), on the boundary of the currents, although it avoids the main stream, in the backwaters, in the snag, under the shore, etc.

In winter, its behavior and parking spaces are somewhat easier to predict. So, on the first and last ice of the perch they are looking for in smaller areas (sometimes from a depth of only 30-40 centimeters, you can catch very well).

In the dead of winter, the perch goes to a depth, into pits, and is already caught there. But, there are always exceptions. In our practice, there have often been cases when in January-February the perch suddenly began to take literally under the very edge of the ice, sometimes it is enough in the middle layers of water. But for winter fishing, the general rule is to look for this fish at the bottom, and only in the absence of biting, catch other horizons.

In summer, perch takes both from the bottom and from the surface. Everything is very individual here, it depends on the place and on the type of gear.

Catching perch

As already noted, you can catch perch all year round. There are some difficulties in catching it in the early spring, when the water overflowed the coast, at this time you can catch it, unless by accident. They do not catch perch even during spawning, otherwise: the fisherman has at his disposal the whole season of open water and winter fishing. Perch is caught on a wide variety of gear: spinning (spinners, wobblers, jig), float rods, tackle with a side nod, sheer lure in summer and winter, on a balancer, on live bait. There are other ways that we will talk about somehow.

The most popular among us, of these, is standard spinning fishing (baits are attached to the forest, casting to the fishing point is carried out and fishing is done in this way), spinning fishing using special equipment (for example, with a retractable leash), with a Tyrolean stick, with a bombard and float tackle. As you can see, when fishing on a perch, there is a place to turn around, since there are a lot of gear, and, for sure, everyone will find the gear that will be most to their liking. Sometimes a perch takes well on a leash, sometimes on surface turntables and oscillators, and sometimes it is necessary to perform long-range casting using bombards, throwing a perch at the front sight ...

But no less interesting is catching perch with a float. They catch it in pits, near bridges and piles, on a rocky bottom, near thickets of grass and other places that are interesting for perch from the point of view of hunting and camouflage. As a rule, they catch the float tackle from the bottom, bait is an ordinary worm (bloodworms can also be used, although this is less important in summer). We do not put a leash when fishing perch, the fishing line will fit about 0.2 mm., You can slightly thinner. By the way, the float equipment itself can be mounted in several versions: by the type of bottom tackle and like a regular float tackle. It is better to use the hook with a long forearm, as it will be more convenient to extract it, and, if necessary, you can plant a couple of worms. Oddly enough, but in our practice, perch was somehow not very active on maggots.

If the perch is on the site, its bite will not take long. Perch eagerly takes it, especially on the river, as such hooking is practically not required, the main thing is not to pull the rod strongly so as not to break the fish’s lips. As a rule, if you managed to catch the perch, you can still take out several whales from the same place, as perches often go in packs. And only if there is no bite, you can change the place.

In summer, when the bite of the fish deteriorates due to the heat, tackle such as a lateral nod can show good results, which allows you to catch the most interesting places.

If fishing is carried out in the summer from a boat or in deep places, it is quite real and interesting to put perch on a sheer spinner (for winter spinner). In this way, it is possible not only to lure and attract the humpback to the place, but also to collect around 1-2 flocks, which later toss the worm (float tackle). As the saying goes, there will definitely be a catch for the fish soup (for more information on catching perch in the summer, read here).

You can still talk a lot about perch, so this is a unique fish. It is not difficult to catch perch, but it is perch fishing that trains the fisherman in such qualities as observation, patience, skill in tackle, etc. Good luck with your fishing, fragrant perch soup and good frying.
