Sudak in April, May

The article describes how to choose and set up the right tackle for catching zander in the spring. What is important to consider when planning to go in the spring, to catch zander. How does zander catch in April and what is important to pay attention to when catching zander in May.

Many anglers believe that in the spring the zander is poorly caught. Immediately, we note that this is not the right opinion, in the spring zander is caught and, even very good, especially in early April.

In the spring, the activity of pike perch largely depends on weather conditions. Note that from March to about mid-April, you can meet a predator mainly in areas with a depth of more than three meters.

At the end of April, the predator begins to show activity on sandbanks, but only in the morning and evening hours. Beginning in mid-May, pikeperch switches to summer mode, now it will rarely appear on the shallows, more often it will be found in pits, deep brows, not far from the rapids.

Features of catching zander in the spring on a spinning rod

As soon as the pond is free of ice, you can start fishing for zander using a spinning rod. Better in the early spring, zander will peck until the moment the water level rises, and this point is important to consider.

Important! More likely to catch zander from a fisherman who constantly moves along the coast. The more the territory will be explored, the more likely it is to find an active fish site.

Therefore, having completed 5-7 casts, if the bite did not follow, you should no longer linger, we move to another promising place. It is recommended to move away from the point at least 30-40 meters.

If after the next casting a bite has occurred, and it was possible to catch a zander, in this place you should linger. Note that during this period of fishing, the predator gathers in small flocks and perhaps one of the subsequent casts will also be effective.

Medium-sized silicone baits should be used as bait. Note that in spring pike perch, the belly is clogged with caviar, so it may not be possible to swallow a twister with a length of, say, 10 cm from a medium-sized predator. Particular attention is paid to the selection of the jig head relative to weight, the selection should be based on the depth and strength of the current in a particular area.

The color of the bait is determined individually based on the transparency of the water. If the water is cloudy, it is recommended that you choose bright colors (green, red, yellow). Prior to spawning, the use of twisters made of ordinary rubber is sufficient; “edible rubber” is more suitable for catching pikeperch after spawning.

We select and configure gear

The spinning gear for spring and summer fishing for zander does not have a fundamental difference, but there are some differences. The main thing is to choose and adjust the tackle so that it is characterized by maximum sensitivity.

It is important that during posting all the bait's contacts with the ground are transferred to the hand. Therefore, it is recommended to opt for spinning ropes, fast formation with a rigid form. The length is selected individually depending on the fishing conditions, but since more often in April and May it will be possible to catch from the shore due to the spawning ban, it is better to opt for options with a length of 2.7-3.1 meters when testing up to 35 grams.

The next moment is the coil. Experienced anglers recommend the use of well-known production models. An excellent choice would be an inertia-free reel with a metal spool, size 2500. It is advisable to buy options with a front clutch. Today, their choice is simply huge, so there will be no difficulties with the purchase.

An ordinary fishing line can be wound around the reel spool, but if you pay attention to the tackle used by a professional, you will notice that a braided cord is wound around its reel. Why ">

After spawning, pike perch returns to its usual places, but we note that its activity will primarily depend on weather conditions. Mostly, after spawning, pikeperch is more common on deep-sea brows, but if the weather is warm, then at night the predator can be found on sandbanks at a distance of 15-30 meters from the coast.

It is important to know that zander is not attracted to areas abundantly overgrown with grass or having a muddy bottom. More predators like a clean bottom with pronounced bumps in the relief. It is not necessary to try to search for zander immediately after spawning in known summer places; here, if a predator appears, then only in the second half of May.

Features of fishing for pike perch in April

We already wrote about the features of catching zander in April here, you can read, for those who have not read, we recall briefly.

Around the middle of April, floods begin, during which the water level in the pond sharply changes upwards. It is difficult to find active zander during this period, but it is possible if you make some efforts. Note that the predator leaves the pits and other deep areas during this period and comes closer to the shallows where it can be successfully caught in the evening and morning hours.

In April, zander has an increased activity, which is explained by the approach of spawning, a predator feeds, during this period it does not stop. Every year, the pike perch goes to the spawning grounds in one section, so if you know where the predator pecked well last year, feel free to go there, success will be guaranteed.

As a rule, in April, the most promising places for catching this predator will be areas with a depth of 2-3 meters away from the main stream at a distance from the coast of 30-40 meters. Zander spawns in small groups of 5-7 individuals to spawn. Therefore, if you managed to catch one pike perch in a hurry to leave this place is not necessary, perhaps the next few casts will also be effective.

It should be noted that closer to the end of April there is a possibility of catching trophy specimens, which you only have to dream about in the summer months. As practice shows, in the spring large pike perch weighing up to 4 kg is more often caught, but specimens with a weight exceeding 7-8 kg can also be caught, of course, their capture is rare.

Features of fishing for zander in May

In May, having come to the pond for the first cast, it should be done perpendicularly clearly to the coastline, this will allow the bait to be made over the edge. There should be at least three such castings. After that, if there was no bite, 3-4 casts to the sides are performed. This method of catching a promising point will allow you to catch a large area, and if the active pike perch is in the zone, it will certainly respond to a floating bait.

Small pike perch weighing up to a kilogram often stands along the coastal edge, its bite is similar to the bite of a perch, however, since a large bait is used, a small predator cannot swallow it, grabs it by the edge of the tail. If you encounter such situations, it is recommended to change the fishing point, since here it is unlikely that you can count on a bite of a worthy specimen.

After performing a series of casts, which usually consists of 8-10 castings, in the absence of bite, it is recommended to change the place, having shifted along the coast to either side by at least 25 meters. Promising areas for fishing can be distinguished with a sharp difference in depth, any uneven terrain, steep coast, exit from the pit, underwater obstacles (driftwood, flooded hydraulic structures).

In May, zander is caught well, but it is important to know the features of its behavior during this period and, taking them into account, select places for fishing. It should be noted that the most unpromising place for catching this predator in May is considered to be reaches, regardless of their depth. Therefore, when planning to go fishing for zander in May, the first thing you need to do is explore the areas with snags and deep-water channel edges, while not ignoring the steep banks where zander can stand even a few meters from the shore.
