Pike on small rivers in the summer

How to catch pike in the summer on small rivers with spinning and circles. Features of small rivers, the nuances of gear, suitable baits. The tactics of fishing in these difficult reservoirs.

Often we practice with friends catching pikes from the boat with spinning rods and circles, finding interest and practical sense in this active fishing. Favorite places are small rivers. Typically, such reservoirs actively overgrow in summer, there are a lot of pit holes in many areas, so fishing pressure is small, which we like.

The places are so difficult for spinning, and the pike is so shy that, in principle, you could get by with some live bait gear, which brings the lion's share of the catches. But spinning sometimes helps, especially at the end of summer - early autumn, when pikes begin to leave thinning grass and go into holes. Anyway, how can one go to a predator without spinning ?! It is more fun with him, on wet rainy days it is warmer, and his hands are always at hand. Although, to be honest, when the circles work with a bang, then it’s not time for spinning.

In general, if "for fish - then you can do it with some" banks ". Banks we call circles. And if “fishing” - you want more aesthetics, movement, there is a desire to find yourself a difficult spinning problem and solve it successfully, or just fun to catch a perch, then you can’t do without spinning on a small river.

Pike places on small rivers

The main problem is not that pike fishing by spinning on small rivers is complicated by the fact that the predator reacts worse to artificial baits, but by the often insurmountable technical and tactical difficulties for this method of fishing. Indeed, for the most part, a weighty pike adheres to places that cannot be caught from a more or less distant distance. And approaching when you can act for sure - a huge chance to frighten away the fish, and it will not take the most beautiful bait, it is often seen even with an eye - it moves away and was like that.

With live bait, the tactics themselves are radically different - they swam up, handed the crucian into a suitable "hole" and sailed away. Even if the predator was standing nearby and alerted her, it will not go far, will soon calm down and return to the bait fish, cutting circles. This is the only advantage over the spinning rod, but it is significant in the fishing conditions offered to the fisherman by a "cunning" small river.

But if the pike do not see the fisherman, then they are not afraid of anything. There was a case recently quite indicative. When fishing for a circle, the pike was detected as if it were being reliably, but in the process of fishing, it left - the hook broke. Replaced live bait with more fresh, and after half an hour again bite. A flock of something pike here ">

50 cm lateral metal leash - I connect two cheap green shop leashes of 25 cm each through the hinges, they are strong, they can be pulled out easily. I fix the leash on the fishing line as usual - with a stopper, moving it up and down. The stopper should not be too rigid, and when hooking, move to the load, making it possible to hook the pike as reliably as possible. But this is if you hurried to work out. For I use a double and the classic bait “on the deepthroat”: I bring a leash into the gill of live bait, put it out through my mouth, catch a hook, pull it back, the double forearm is hidden in the mouth, only hooks stick out. With this method of baiting and hooking, there is no particular need, but only when you are not in a hurry to work, and you let the pike swallow securely.

When we tie the jar to the coastal branches on the current, again not strong, but felt, then I use other equipment, similar to the zerichnaya - with the end hook, and the load is located higher. Although there is no problem everywhere anchor live bait.

Suitable bait

Usually we don’t really bother ourselves and we catch on imported carp, trying to pick up a larger fry, at least 10-11 cm. It’s reckless to catch small fish on a small river - an odd pike can torture, and, unlike spinning fishing, it usually, you won’t let go “alive and intact”, as the toothy small fish swallows deeply. So do not spoil the fish, it has already come with experience. The big bait is eliminated by a small pike - it can be enough, but does not swallow it, but simply knocks down or cuts the carp. If there is no stock of live bait, then right on the river there is no problem to catch a white whit with a fishing rod. Especially with bleaching there are no problems - in any place where there is a little calm of the current, stand and catch as much as you need.

Spinning reel on small rivers

Everything here is also simple, because the rather difficult conditions of small rivers do not stimulate any spinning delights. It is important here to simply catch quickly and as accurately as possible, getting used to clearly process compact points. Accordingly, the jig is beyond competition, both with open hooks and offset ones - according to the situation in specific places. The most popular bait on our small river is a white ripper with a red tail of 6-8 cm long, which we catch for the most part, considering it universal throughout the season. But the load may be different. The maximum that may be needed is 18-22 g when fishing holes with a difficult bottom. The minimum for catching pike is 7 g. Lighter ones are better suited for fishing perch on fine rubber.

Walk on water

The small river has a narrow channel, but there is still a course and it’s not easy to climb considerable distances on oars. At one time we went with an electric motor - unreliably if there is no spare battery, and again we will have to tackle the oars. A low-power gasoline engine is the most for frequent movements along the river. We have a “five”, which, if necessary, even allows you to get on a 2.9 m glider boat. By the way, it can be useful to “pogazat” near the exposed circles, this technique often activates a pike nibble.

In fact, small rivers are not easy, so to speak for an amateur, and have not gained much popularity among domestic fishermen. But still, some, on the contrary, like them. And everyone finds that he likes more. Our company is drawn to wild places where the coast is swampy, there are practically no approaches, respectively, people too, and the small river provides us with such an opportunity, for which many thanks to it!
