The article describes how to identify promising places for zander fishing in winter. What is important to consider when setting out to catch zander. What gears and lures can be used to catch a predator. How to properly configure the zerglas for zander.
Pike perch is well caught at any time of the year, but only if the right approach to the process is not only fishing, but also preparation, namely the choice of gear and determining the place for fishing. It is worth noting that in winter it is difficult to catch zander, however, during this period the predator is caught, most importantly, being able to find it. How to catch zander in the winter, as well as what gear and bait are used, can be found in this article.
Promising winter fishing spots
Finding zander in the winter is different from how this process occurs in the summer. If in the summer it is enough to find a difference in depth or a snag at the bottom, then in winter this is not enough. In winter, a fisherman has to go a kilometer on the ice and make more than one hundred moon.
In winter, pike perch for a long time does not linger in one place, it constantly moves in search of food. If you just come and sit in the pit or in front of the dump and start to show off, then the chances of a good catch will be low.
Start looking for zander only at a depth with a clean and hard bottom. So, having come to a pond, 10-15 holes are drilled right away at a distance between every 2-3 meters. After that, we return to the first and begin to catch it, if no bites occur within five minutes, go to the next and so on to the last. Caught the last hole, we begin to drill new holes.
It is also not recommended to stay in one hole after catching a zander, it is better to leave it and return to it after 30 minutes.
Winter fishing features
Pike perch is active throughout the winter, with the exception of the dead end season, it falls in the middle, the end of January.
To catch zander in the winter you need to constantly move, it is important to look for fish that do not linger in one place. If you were lucky enough to catch a zander, then you should not expect that the bite will continue, as the predator can leave. Why is this happening "> scammers. If they leave, the pike perch also leaves, which means it’s time for the fisherman to pick up the ice drill and start drilling new holes.
In winter you should only search for a pike perch in clear water with a hard sandy or rocky bottom. If the bottom is muddy or overgrown with grass, its pike perch passes by, it is important to know. It is more convenient to search for zander using an echo sounder, because in this case, it is quickly possible to determine the nature of the bottom, its structure, as well as obtain other useful information.
Zander is best caught on the first and last ice, during these periods there is a peak in its activity. In the middle of winter, especially if there are frosts, the pike perch lies at the bottom of the pit and stops eating completely until the weather conditions stabilize.
The activity of the predator will be high in the days of thaws, if even a mild north wind blows, the bite sharply worsens. As for the bite from the time of day, you can start fishing from 6 and continue until 11 in the morning, during the day the activity decreases, resumes in the late afternoon and lasts until 19 hours.
Pike perch tackle
So, we’ll immediately note that the quality of the fishing rod will not be able to affect fishing, but the quality of the equipment will. Therefore, you can take the most ordinary winter fishing rod with a small reel or a homemade stick with a reel, it does not matter, we pay special attention to equipment.
If the fishing line is seen by its pike perch, the likelihood that he will be seduced by the bait is reduced, so if the conditions allow, we take the fishing line of the smallest possible diameter and only transparent. Anglers say, the thinner the fishing line, the more bites, this is not an easy statement, this is a proven fact.
A nod 15–25 cm long, of medium stiffness, is installed on the selected fishing rod. Note that the bite of pike perch is very neat. The predator does not attack the bait; it can push it several times before swallowing it. It is important here that there is no resistance that may alert the pike perch. Everything should be natural, only in this case, the pikeperch will swallow the proposed bait and all that remains to be done after that is to remove it from the hole.
The choice of bait for winter fishing zander
In winter, zander is convenient to catch using spinners, when choosing it is recommended to give preference to models of a narrow shape and medium size, as for the shade, it is only silver or white. The weight of the spinner is determined depending on the presence of current strength, as well as depth in the selected area.
It is worth noting that the less bait, the more bites there will be, but a small pike perch will more often be a trophy. If you use a spinner 8-12 cm long, then the number of bites of small pike perch will immediately decrease, and large specimens will often come across, of course, if they are found in a pond where fishing occurs.
You can try to catch pikeperch using mormyshki, from 1 to 2 cm long, the choice regarding weight and size depends on the depth in the fishing area. You can increase the attractiveness of mormyshka by wrapping a small amount of red wool on a hook or planting a bloodworm or a piece of fresh fish.
Whether or not the pike perch responds to the proposed mormyshka depends on how correctly it is offered. Note that the bait should move smoothly and slowly, it is important to try to completely exclude sudden movements.
The tactics of catching zander on mormyshka is as follows. The bait sinks to the bottom, after which up to 7 short twitches are performed, while the mormyshka should not be torn off from the bottom by a height of more than 2-3 cm. After this, a pause of up to 5 seconds is maintained. If the pike perch is present on the site, then it will not disregard the bait and is guaranteed to attack it.
When fishing, you can use other tactics, for example, mormyshka gradually raise to a height of 30 cm from the bottom, after which they allow it to fall to the bottom in free fall, then a pause. Note that the pike perch most often attacks the bait at the time of a pause or immediately after its separation from the bottom.
Fishing for pike perch on live bait
As a tackle are used zerglas, in the construction of which a metal leash is excluded. A reel is installed on the tackle with a decent supply of fishing line. After an attack, a pike perch does not immediately swallow its prey; it can hold it in its mouth and swim 10 meters or more. Draining the fishing line from the reel should be easy, a minimal effort can alert the predator and cause the bait to be thrown away. After installing the ventilator, make sure that the fishing line is not pinched by anything, and the hole is completely cleared of ice.
A single hook is attached to the fishing line of the zhergilnik, number 6 with a short forearm is sufficient. Live bait is fixed by the lips or under the upper fin. Note that there are more chances to catch pike perch with the help of zergolits if you catch the fry in the same reservoir in which you plan to catch pike perch.
