Burbot - Description

Burbot, at one time we already wrote about this wonderful fish, and we believe that additional information will definitely not be superfluous. I want to start a little unusual. Namely, with such thoughts and words: “It’s late autumn in the yard, the rain mixed with tearing snow begins to freeze at night. Most fishermen sit at home waiting for the first ice, and only a small group of enthusiast enthusiasts go out every night to catch burbot. It’s cold - yes, the conditions are not resort - yes, but it’s all just for a person. But for NALIM, this is the best time. His season begins, when he begins to actively feed, and, accordingly, delight extreme fishermen with his bites! ”

Yes, once again I want to talk about burbot. And even the fact that burbot is widespread in the country, at this stage he is not a frequent visitor in the fishermen’s catches, often comes across along the way, for example, catching the same zander in the winter from a hole. The thing is that the autumn biting of a burbot, as you know, begins in a certain sense in the off-season, when you don’t want to go outside, not just go fishing. In winter, only true lovers and fans of this fishing catch it, but spring fishing is somewhat similar to the situation that is observed in the fall: people wait for the off-season ... And at that time, burbot is very well caught and can really please not only with its cool, but and size.

So, once we fished for burbot in the month of November. Donkeys set up. Until 2 a.m. there was no bite at all, having rechecked the donks, we decided to make the next round of the clock at 5 a.m. Imagine our surprise when one of the bottom gear, which was loaded with a sleeping carp, fell on a burbot of 1.5 kilograms. And this is on the river, where the average depths are about 2 meters, and the width of the river is only 10-12 meters. Here is such a mysterious burbot fish.

Burbot Description

To remember this fish, we suggest looking at the photo, and it is already clear that the burbot is a bottom dweller. He prefers to stay among snags, stones, in pits, feeds mainly at night, often runs aground, combes the banks. As stated above, the colder the better. Hence a simple conclusion: in colder regions and waters, optimal conditions for development are created for burbot, therefore, there it reaches more impressive sizes. In the rivers of Nizhny Novgorod region, Vladimir and Moscow regions, for example, burbots of the order of 500-2000 grams are most often found, but this does not mean at all that there are no "trophies" either. There is, it’s just not so easy to take it, find it, and exposure is required, since on a normal sunny and warm day, the burbot simply does not bite, and in the cold and cold, not every fisherman decides to go fishing, moreover, Overnight.

The body of the burbot (the upper part is darker, the lower white-yellow) is elongated, the surface is covered with mucus, it is very difficult to hold this fish in your hands, without special gloves. Almost unrealistic, he slips out. Outwardly, his body resembles a spindle, a pipe, the body of a catfish, with which large burbot has some similarities.

Where does burbot live?

Burbot lives in many bodies of water, practically does not go out into hurricane, preferring whirlpools, dumps, pits, areas near snags (but not in the snag itself) and near aquatic vegetation (but not in thickets), in stones, in areas of depth difference. If there are springs, it is near the springs that the burbot will stand. The lower the temperature of the environment and the water, the more active the biting of the burbot will be.

In summer, he practically does not bite, especially during periods of abnormal heat.

With cooling, the activity of fish increases. You can catch burbot literally all year, with the exception of the spawning period, when sexually mature individuals do not feed (burbot spawns in the winter months). But, individuals who have not yet reached puberty, perfectly respond to the bait, sit on a hook. In general, burbot is not so easy to find. This predator does not belong to schooling species of fish, but if you find a site where burbot biting is noted, it is quite realistic to expect other individuals to go hunting.

Burbot fishing

As for catching burbot, in the vast majority of cases it is caught with bottom gear. In various fishing magazines and videos you can see how open water burbot is caught at night by spinning rods (bottom mounting). All this is true, but if you go down to the level of ordinary practicing people who are keen on fishing for burbot, we can say that in open water ordinary donkey donkeys are almost always used, and in winter - burbot zergeliki. And the first and second design are arranged approximately the same. Kapron cord (fishing line from 0.3-0.4mm.), Sinker, hook (more often, tee). An open question regarding a leash. When we fish with fishing line, we put a leash, but if a kapron thread is used, no. But in order to be completely sure that the burbot will not work, the leash will not hurt. That's all the gear.

With a few exceptions, burbot are not hooked, as while exploring the bottom in search of food, the burbot finds a bait (worms on a hook, a frog, pieces of fish, meat, oysters, etc.), swallows it and self-cuts. It is important to observe one condition: if fishing is carried out to the donks, then be sure to go around them at least once every 1-3 hours, and secondly, when leaving the fishing, remove all donks. Roughly speaking, the fisherman established a dozen donks, he must choose all ten donuts from the water. All this is done so that the biting burbot does not suffer from gear ...

Usually they go fishing in the evening in the evening, placing the docks, and then, with the interval indicated above, the fisherman checks the tackle all night. With some seeming passivity, burbot fishing is very exciting. If it was not possible to correctly determine the place, over the whole night you may never see a bite. Therefore, the Donks are placed at a certain distance from each other (at least ten meters from one another), casting them to different depths. You should know that burbot can take, both from the depths and aground (with a depth of 20-50 centimeters) when it goes to reach. Having determined the place of the bite, there is always the opportunity to reset the “idle” donks to an interesting and promising site.

Catching a burbot on a spinning rod is similar to fishing on a donkey, with the only difference being that it’s more difficult to determine a place, and you can visually note a bite.

Burbot fishing in winter

In winter, the burbot is caught on the vents (from the bottom) and lures, while the burbot bites during the day. As a bait, they use a wide variety of spinners, on which you can plant dead fish, worms, chicken skin and other animal bait. The principle is similar to catching a rattan, with the only difference being that it does not require sharp jerks, but you need to play literally at the bottom and at the bottom. We caught burbot without any bait at all, lowering the usual jig sinker into the hole, on which we used a tee with a winding ring. But on the tee already planted a piece of fish.

As they say, we talked about burbot only superficially, there are subtleties in its catch. For example, when fishing, you need to have a stock of leashes in advance so that you do not bother at night with tying a hook. They simply cut the tackle (the hook sometimes remains in the burbot, you can remove it at home), and a ready-made leash is mounted, you will find all the most interesting about the burbot a little lower.

Actually, if you managed to catch a good burbot, in terms of cooking, dishes from it will not leave anyone indifferent. Try it, good luck and all the best.
